constellations and Star Signs
Constellations are named patterns of stars that have been observed over thousands of years. They are a way of telling which stars are which in the night sky. Constellations are important in astronomy because they divide the sky into smaller segments. There are 88 well known constellations and their names are mostly Latin in origin. They are not intended to look like their name only to honour
it. Our birth zodiac sign is named after a constellation on the ecliptical line. The ecliptical line is a narrow path in the sky that the sun, moon and planets appear to follow.
There are twelve different zodiac star signs each with different names. The star signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. They stretch across different months and they all relate to the stars.
Aquarius is a constellation that lies between Capricornus and Pisces and is Latin for water carrier. It lies in the Southern hemisphere and is the tenth largest contellation in the sky. The largest star in the Aquarius constellation is Sadalsuud, Beta Aquarii which is a rare yellow supergiant star.
