Jupiter
The Solar System is made up of all the planets that orbit our sun. It also contains moons, comets, asteroids, minor planets, dust and gas. There are eight planets in our solar system - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
Jupiter is the fifth planet from our Sun and is also the largest planet in our Solar System. The Earth could fit inside Jupiter more than 1000 times. Under its atmosphere Jupiter does not have a solid surface, but is made up of hydrogen, helium and water. It has four large moons called Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto but also has many smaller moons. The colours and patterns of Jupiter are created by cloud formations and storms. The giant red spot, also called 'The Eye of Jupiter' is a giant storm that has been observed for more than 300 years. Jupiter has three faint rings that are made up of dust particles and debris and can only be seen when Jupiter passes in front of the Sun. The average year on Jupiter lasts 4 383 Earth days.
